Development Coordinator
Creative Commons is seeking an energetic Development Coordinator who is interested in applying the basic principles of development and fund-raising work in an innovative setting. Creative Commons is non-profit, rapidly expanding, without an established development department. The applicant must be committed to building a development program from the ground up, an entrepreneurial spirit, and be results-orientated. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person interested in working in a start-up hands-on environment. The full-time position reports to the COO of Creative Commons and CEO of Creative Commons.
Major Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Solicitation and Campaign Management:
- Plan and co-ordinate fund-raising events and manage event planning team
- Track funds raised
- Implement a direct mail campaign
- Maintain Internet solicitation campaign
- Access and monitor fund-raising results
- Recruit and supervise gift processing and assures productions of acknowledgement letters, gift receipts, and pledge reminders
- Manage donor database, maintain accurate and comprehensive donor lists and manage gift acknowledgement process
- Grant Proposals:
- Work with CEO to follow-up on donor and foundation funding opportunities
- Research and identify potential funding targets, both public and private
- Maintain knowledge of all ongoing projects in the organization, the organization’s broader mission and strategic goals to accurately identify potential funding opportunities and grant strategy
- Lead the preparation of all grant proposals and reports
- Strategy:
- Create, plan and implement realistic long term and short term fund raising with Senior Staff and Board
- Set specific fund-raising targets, in consultation with senior staff, and implement procedures to achieve them
- Collaborate with Directors of Science Commons, Creative Commons International and iCommons to aid in their respective funding plans
Minimum Qualifications:
- Outstanding writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Technology savvy a must
- Ability to work independently and to take initiative, without significant supervision or assistance
- Must be prepared to do all levels of list and campaign management, from high-level cultivation to physical mailings
- College degree or experience equivalent
These Qualifications a plus:
- Knowledge of legal copyright, technology, and issues relating to creativity on the internet highly desired
- Familiarity with Bay Area funding vehicles
- A personal record of success in garnering dollar gifts
- Extensive experience with donor cultivation, acquisition, and stewardship
- Knowledge of non-profit solicitation standards
- Experience writing grant proposals, and proven success
- Experience with Board Education
