Hey there, I'm having a hard time following your HTML because it looks like something (Nabble?) is stripping out your <a> tags. Maybe you could try using character entities instead (&lt; and &gt;) ?

If you're browsing the menu, The top level menu link is NOT just an
expand/hider. It's an actual  link also. So How can I modify this such
that........ I can have something like this.
