I was talking to @neslihanturan and @maskaravivek today and the topic of testing came up - our current method is somewhat inefficient because we rely a lot on core developers' time for testing, plus we aren't able to cover a wide range of cases/devices.

It was mentioned that we could perhaps put more effort into designating tasks for people who would like to contribute to our project as testers. I don't think we even need people with QA experience at this stage (though of course if any QAs want to help it would be great!), but if we provide a step-by-step workflow, perhaps novice developers or even non-developers with a bit of technical knowledge could help with that.

Thoughts?

Good idea!
The app only allows a limited number of actions, and each upload is pretty much independent from previous uploads, so we have probably less test scenarios than an accounting app for instance.
The Wiki sounds like a good place for this.
I upload a few pictures each day using the latest version from Google Play beta. I happen to always have pictures that I believe are interesting, but some people might not have so many. For these people, a paragraph explaining how to use flavours could be welcome (and the easiest the best, see #1057).

Finally, having many testers is not useful if they test an old APK, so I think the priority of #1056 rises.

Is this the same as having a Beta release, or something else?

Thanks,

Chris.

The point of this issue is that we must find ways to get more people to opt for Beta.

For instance something like a "Join the beta" link in About could be one idea.

I can see something similar to this, in the Settings menu.

Ah yes thanks!

We could have it in both Settings and About. 🙂
