Hi, I would like to suggest making two enhancements of the Commons app:

  1. It would be nice if the app could add the uploaded images in the user gallery, as VicuňaUploader can, letting the user choose the size of the image, name of the part of the gallery, and whether the new bit should go to the top or bottom of the page.

  2. I have noticed that the date uploaded to Commons probably takes the date of the upload, not the image date taken. Similarly to how VicuňaUploader does it, it is the date taken that should be uploaded, IMHO, not the current date, unless the user wants it to be different. What happened today is that the date uploaded was today's one (upload date), not the one of digitalizing the image, i.e. taking the photo, which was 2 days ago. Example: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vy%C5%A1n%C3%BD_(%C4%8Cesk%C3%BD_Krumlov),_U_Kas%C3%A1ren_(01).jpg - had to change the date to the correct one, apart from having to add categories which failed to upload (it is dealt with in another thread).

I am not able to help solving the issue but will gladly participate in testing any changes.

Thanks for considering the suggestions,
Czeva

Hi @Czeva , thanks for the suggestions!

For (1), do you mean that you would like the images automatically added to your Commons user page gallery?

(2) is a really good point! We need to work on this soon, it is currently tracked here #1013

Hi @misaochan , thanks for the quick reply.

For (1), yes - if the uploader chooses to paste the thumbs in his/her gallery, it is their responsibility to get rid of excessive numbers of photos by creating gallery subpages. The same thing is offered when uploading through VicunaUploader and I guess it works fine. I had to include those uploaded though the app in the gallery manually (and add the categories, as mentioned in the other thread you have also replied to: #310).

As for (2), sorry I did not find the link #1013. I just found out by accident after having uploaded one more photo later. I'm happy you guys know about it :-)

So it sounds like the second part was addressed in #1013, is the first part of the OP still keeping this ticket open? What do we need to do, next?

Not sure why VicunaUploader has this feature, an independent tool would be better, rather than each upload app implementing their own.

Hi, thanks for asking. I think many uploaders would find it very useful. Some of those I know are staying with Vicuňa especially because of the possibility to add media to their gallery. How about including a tick-to-start-using option, which might make the WM Uploader tool more attractive? I'm afraid I cannot help with an IT solution but will look forward to WMU getting more convenient! :)
