How do we see this CC Signals and C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) work together? Can we embed CC Signals somewhere in C2PA format and encourage larger C2PA stakeholders (specifically tool creators) to utilize that? |

CC signals are designed to offer a new way for stewards of large collections of content to indicate their preferences for how machines (and the humans controlling them) should contribute back to the commons when they reuse and benefit from using the content.
We aspire to a more equitable digital future, in which AI platforms will be incentivized to respect creators’ wishes. Working toward this goal: CC signals provide a framework to empower people with the ethical and legal authority to specify how a collection of creative content should be used by machines. While CC signals will be available for anyone to use, we anticipate CC signals being most impactful with stewards of large collections of content, because AI platforms rely on ingesting large collections of content, rather than content on an individual scale.
CC signals are a specific solution that won't meet everyone's needs. Luckily, there are other options. For example, if you want to indicate an opt-out preference, the IETF AI Preferences working group is in the process of creating that. If you want to prevent access, there are technologies working toward prevention.
While we recognize that there is no single fix to address all of the challenges people face, our hope is that, collectively, these solutions and others will afford creators more powerful support. For a summary of CC signals, see our recent blog post, or for greater detail, see our recent report!
