Video skills and equipment

I just tried to watch some presentation videos from Wikimania. Some had very weak sound, some had no sound in the first minutes, some only played the first minute and then stopped. I don't think the Wikimania videos are unique in having such problems. Video is new to Commons, and the expert contributors are more familiar with still images. How can we learn to make better videos? Are there some good instructions? Perhaps a free instruction video (Wikibooks, but a video instead of a book) on how to produce good videos is what we need. In fact, the English Wikibooks has a title on "Video Production", http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Video_Production but it doesn't have a clear focus (pun not intended). It starts out with discussing satellite TV and has long sections on file formats in different operating systems. There is a help page on Commons for converting video to the Ogg Theora format, but that is only the last step in a long chain. Given that video is new, how can we find and rate videos, nominate "good/featured videos", and give advice on how to improve quality? Is the Commons village pump enough for this? Commons has a separate graphics village pump. Do we also need a separate video village pump? Current digital video cameras use hard disks or memory cards, instead of tape cassettes. Many new models cost less than 300 euro (or dollars), some as little as 120 euro (memory card perhaps not included). Some have a special "Youtube mode", and I guess that kind of usage is what drives the price down. What models are good, and what should one watch out for? We can find free still photos on Flickr and copy them to Commons. Is there somewhere we can find free videos and copy them? Yes, at the Internet Archive. What is the easy way for photographers to contribute to commons?

Metadata of digitized manuscripts

Hey all, I'm helping out with an upload of digitized manuscripts. We were discussing the metadata that come with those, and there were some issues that weren't covered by any of the existing useful templates (book or artwork). However, I would still prefer to use an existing template instead of building something from different fields. Does anyone have experience with uploading manuscripts and associated metadata to Commons, and can point me to some examples of how specific problems were solved? Commons Android app update - v2.4.2

Hi all, We're excited to announce that we've rolled out several new features and bug fixes for the Commons Android app[1] over the past few months. Some of the major ones include: - A map of nearby places that need pictures (in addition to the existing list). Selecting a nearby place allows users to see the associated Wikidata item, get directions to the place, or view the associated Wikipedia article - A new and improved UI, including a light and dark theme, a navigation drawer, and a logout option - Fixed memory issues preventing users with older phones from accessing the app - Licenses now include CC-BY 4.0 and CC-BY-SA 4.0, and licenses can be selected individually when uploading a picture - The total number of pictures that have been uploaded from an account are now shown, and the image details pane now displays the upload date and image coordinates Thank you for your support and encouragement though all this time! Doubts on uploading other's audio files to commons with attribution

Hello all, I am working on building a web application, to record audio files, upload them to commons, link to relevant wiktionary pages. To achieve this, I am connecting a web application, Lingua-Libre with commons,wiktionary. Here is a demo video on this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8pwCC9MqGA&t=13s When the application is production ready, we can host it on a server. Contributors can create account, login, spell words. In backed, I will upload the audio files to commons with my account or a bot account. we will get the user's wikipedia user name on the profile, so that we can mention the same as the "original author" of the file, in the commons. If I upload all the files, using my account, the upload count and metrics for my account will be high. Is there any way to add the same counts and metrics for the relevant user, I mention as "author" ? I want those users should see their contributions counts/files on the commons. This will encourage the users to contribute, without any issues on their reports. How can we achieve this? [TOOLS] GWtoolset title fields

-apologies for crossposting- Dear all, It's been a while since I last used the GWtoolset. I'm using the artwork template but in making the mapping (step 2) the fields Title and GWtoolset-title don't appear, whereas these fields are required. Am I missing some change to the tool or is this a bug? Thanks in advance for your replies!
