How to submit form on click radio button with jquery mobile?

I have a quiz with 4 radio buttons and an answer button. I'd like to remove the answer button and just have this:

question

[a][b][c][d]

I've tried several different javascript scripts that are supposed to submit on click - some as simple as having onclick="this.form.submit();" but they don't work.

I'm running jquery 1.6 and jquery mobile 1.0a4.1

You'll probably want to use a jQuery event handler, something like this:

$(':radio').live('click',function(e){
$(this).closest('form').submit();
});

Ideally this code should be included in an external javascript file included between the jQuery and jQuery Mobile javascript files.

However, are you sure this is a behavior you want? By submitting the form on click of the answer a user can't change their answer without going back. Unless that is an intentional limitation it could prove to be annoying to some users.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up going with multiple submit buttons instead of radio buttons.

My target audience is school children using 320x240 Android devices. I understand your point about not being able to change the answer but I'm doing things like "pick the circle from these shapes" and having to do two clicks was frustrating.

My goal is to have a site that's free for students who can use the cheapest possible hardware to access it.

Hey jdeibele,

Nice work, good suggestion on using multiple buttons for answers. We (Leadership Public Schools in Oakland, CA) are also building out a system called ExitTicket for highschoolers, and ours will be open source as well. Would be up for collaborating if you like. Will have a demo shortly.

Great to see K~2 is already using smartphones for this kind of learning, though I can only imagine what type of edtech system they'll demand when they hit highschool.
