This formal group portrait shows a rowing eights crew wearing official blazers.
In July 1919 a Henley Peace Regatta was held including teams from the Allied armies. The AIF entered two teams, AIF No. 1 and AIF No. 2. Henry Hauenstein was on the selection committee for these teams.
The No. 1 team won the cup and consisted of Sgt A.R. Robb (bow), Lt F.A. House, Lt. T. McGill, Gnr. A.V. Scott, Lt. H. Hauenstein, Major S. A. Middleton, Gnr. G. W. Mettam, Capt. H. C. Disher (str) and Sgt. A. E. Smedley (cox). Henry Hauenstein was a member of Australia's first Olympic eights rowing team, competing at the Stockholm Olympics in 1912.
