The image shows a group of soldiers on railway tracks on a wharf. The front rows are either seated or kneeling, those behind are standing. There is a hazard sign behind them. One of the seated soldiers (front left) has a kit bag reading `E.A. Uren Railway Unit A.I.F. Vic'. The front row carries a banner reading `Australia will be there'. The reverse of the print has a lead pencil inscription reading `Abel Ballarat 13'. The obverse has been double exposed, the ghost image consists of a group portrait of soldiers, the soldier on the far left carries a bugle.
Edgar Albert Uren 672 embarked from Melbourne on HMAT BALLARAT on 19 February 1917. Uren returned to Australia in July 1919 after service in France with the Railway Unit.
