Troops (probably Australian Flying Corps) about to board the ORSOVA
Photograph by Melbourne photographer Josiah Barnes of troops about to board the troopship ORSOVA, Melbourne. Photographic print on paper. This black and white image depicts a group of soldiers lined up on a wharf about to board. The soldiers walk in single file in full military gear carrying their white kit bags. The reverse has a handwritten inscription in pencil at left reading `ORSOVA'.
Josiah Barnes' two sons, Norm and Victor, left for war in 1916 (both returned to Australia after their service). Barnes appears to have taken an interest around this time in photographing the troopships as they departed for war from Melbourne.
