In this image german migrants are preparing to embarking on the FAIRSEA from Columbus Quay, Bremerhaven, for Australia. In the centre is gangway up to ship (not seen) with the word `committee' on the side. The car parked on right has the number `AE 26 3748' and `CC' [Consular Corp] sign. Buildings across back of photograph, one with sign `Columbuskaje'. An inscription on the reverse in blue ballpoint reads: `German migrants embarking `FAIRSEA' 6.8.1953'.
