This image depicts the wharves in Darling Harbour with Jones Bay wharf in the background left. The photograph was taken in Millers Point with a view looking towards North West Sydney. Also visible in this photograph is the Royal Edward Victualling Yard building C on Darling Island Road in Pyrmont, the North Coast Steam Navigation Company wharf (third wharf from left), no. 1 Sussex Street (building to left of NCSN Co wharf), the New Hunter River Hotel (building at bottom centre of photograph) and the Grafton Bond Stores (lower right).

 

This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Sam Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships. His 60-year career spanned the romantic age of sail and two world wars. The photos in the collection were taken mainly in Sydney and Newcastle during the first half of the 20th century.
