The Pittwater Regatta

by Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons

The earliest regattas held Pittwater appear to have been in 1888 with a formal Pittwater Regatta established in 1907. The regatta traditionally occurred on Boxing Day of each year with celebrations extending to the Newport Hotel. The Pittwater Regatta became a prominent event on the yachting calendar and was attended by many New South Wales and interstate yachting identities. Many of the historic flagships and yachts, such as RAWHITI and NEWCASTLE, that took part in the regatta are represented in these images by William Hall.
