Photo Album of H.B. Buck RANR

by Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons

These images are from a photograph album compiled by Sub. Lieutenant H.B. Buck during his service in WWI in the East Indies and Egypt Seaplane Squadron. He describes himself on the photos as RNR (Australia) and others he identifies are either RN, RNR or RNAS. The seaplanes ships he has pictures of are HMS RAVEN, HMS EMPRESS, HMS BEN-MY-CHREE and HMS ANNE (on which he most likely served as pilot). The photographs date from 1916 to 1919 are mainly from Egypt or the Red Sea. The album is bound, with a design of a rider and camel on the cover and stamp on the inside back cover reading 'The Bedouin Album'. Captain Buck has numbered the 24 pages and described each of the 50 photographs in white ink. The inside of front cover bears his address in Australia: 'This book property of BH Buck 413 Military Road Largs Bay SA'.
