Decatur House

Built in 1818 for naval hero Stephen Decatur, the house was designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe and is one of the oldest surviving homes in DC. With its prominent location on the northwest corner of President's Park (now Lafayette Square) the house became a highly desirable address and home to many notable Americans. In 1956 the house was bequeathed to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and operates today as a museum.
