Stereoviews Photograph Collection

The Stereoview Photograph Collection contains stereoscopic photographs of Washington D.C. landmarks and scenes, which simulated three-dimensionality for popular entertainment.

Stereoviews consist of two nearly identical images mounted side-by-side, which appear to show a single three-dimensional scene when viewed through a stereoscope. Stereoviews were popular from approximately the 1850s through the 1930s. Images in the collection include scenes of popular Washington, D.C. landmarks, monuments, government buildings, and art created by various photography studios and photographers from approximately 1860 to 1910.
