Apollo 15 stayed on the moon for three days as the first of the Apollo “J” missions that allowed them to stay on the moon for longer periods of time. They were also the first mission to take a car to the moon and drive it. The Lunar Roving Vehicle allowed the astronauts to travel 17.5 miles and collect more than 170 pounds of lunar samples.
