Apollo 17 had the first scientist-astronaut to land on the moon in Harrison Schmitt. The astronauts traveled 18.9 miles and collected 243 pounds of material. Ronald Evans also performed a transearth EVA to retrieve the lunar sound film as well as the panoramic and mapping camera film cassettes.
