NACA Langley High Speed Tunnel
The 8-Foot High Speed Wind Tunnel at the NACA Langley Aeronautical Laboratory provided the means for testing large models and some full scale components at a simulated speed of 500 miles per hour. The concrete walls of the igloo-like structure around the test section of the 8-Foot High Speed Tunnel were one foot thick. The tunnel was used to study models of aircraft and aircraft components in a high-speed airstream approaching the speed of sound.
