Test Section of High Speed Tunnel
In the NACA Langley 16-foot high-speed wind tunnel, the test section has been opened, the top appearing in the upper part of the picture. Projecting from the farther side of the wind tunnel, of which a section can be seen toward the left, is a wing on which it is intended to investigate the manner in which the air flows over it. The mechanic is attaching one end of short length of wool yarn (tufts) that will reveal by their motion how smoothly the air flows over the wing.
