Spacelab Arrival Ceremony at Kennedy Space Center

NASA Administrator James E. Beggs speaks at the Spacelab arrival ceremony held at the Operations and Checkout Building, Kennedy Space Center. Present but not visible in the picture is Dr. Johannes Ortner, chairman, Spacelab Program Board, ESA. Spacelab was a reusable laboratory module that allowed scientists to perform various experiments in microgravity while orbiting Earth. Designed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and mounted in NASA's Space Shuttle cargo bay, Spacelab flew on missions from 1983 to 1997.
