Opportunity Rover after landing self-portrait
This image from the navigation camera on the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity has been projected to show an overhead perspective of the rover. This image was taken shortly after the rover touched down at Meridiani Planum, Mars, at approximately 9:05 p.m. PST on Saturday, January 24, 2004. The deflated "airbags" used to soften the landing can be seen around the edge of the platform and the rover can be seen in the middle of this composite picture in its "crouched" and folded position on the lander.
