Kathryn Sullivan
Dr. Kathryn Sullivan was selected for astronaut training in January 1978 and flew on 3 Space Shuttle missions: STS-41G, STS-31, and STS-45. On her first mission, she became the first American woman to walk in space on October 11, 1984. She left the astronaut corps in 1993 to serve as the Chief Scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
