STS-87 Shuttle Mission Imagery
Astronaut Winston E. Scott, mission specialist, gets into a training version of the Shuttle Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) space suit prior to an underwater rehearsal of his planned spacewalk on STS-87 and the Space Shuttle Columbia. With the aid of special weights on their suits, astronauts who use the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) at the Sonny Carter Training Center at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) are able to achieve neutral buoyancy and simulate both mission specific and contingency Extravehicular Activity (EVA).
