Skylab 2 Prime Crew
These three astronauts were named by NASA as the prime crew of the first manned Skylab mission. They are, left to right, Joseph P. Kerwin, science pilot; Charles Conrad Jr., commander; and Paul J. Weitz, pilot.
Skylab was a three-part program spanning an eight-month period from May 1973 to February 1974. One day prior to the planned launch of this crew, the unmanned Skylab space station cluster was launched and placed into Earth orbit. A flight anomaly in the station's launch resulted in a 10-day delay in the launch of the first crew.
