Successful Completion of Apollo 7 Mission

The Apollo 7 crew arrived aboard the USS Essex, the prime recovery ship for the mission, after splashdown on October 22, 1968. Left to right, are astronauts Walter M. Schirra Jr., commander; Donn F. Eisele, command module pilot; Walter Cunningham, lunar module pilot; and Dr. Donald E. Stullken, NASA Recovery Team Leader from the Manned Spacecraft Center's (MSC) Landing and Recovery Division.

Apollo 7’s achievement led to a rapid review of Apollo 8’s options. On November 12, 1968, NASA announced that the Apollo 8 mission would be planned for launch on December 21, of that year.
