The Lunar Landing Research Vehicle

The success of the Apollo astronauts who landed the lunar module on the Moon was in part due to their training here on Earth with the Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLRV) and its successor, the Lunar Landing Training Vehicle (LLTV).

In this photo, technicians are dressed in fire suits because the LLRV, affectionately known as "The Flying Bedstead" had 90% pure hydrogen peroxide thrusters. Learn more about the vehicle in the book Unconventional, Contrary, and Ugly: The Lunar Landing Research Vehicle.
