Phoenix Mars Lander, 2007-2008

Description Phoenix: Launched August 4, 2007, the Phoenix Mars lander was designed to dig beneath the surface of Mars in search of water and ice.
Scientists wanted to examine the ice on Mars in order to see if there was once sustained life on the Red Planet.
Phoenix was NASA's sixth successful landing out of seven attempts and it was the first successful landing in a Martian polar region. The lander completed its mission in August 2008.
