8 x 8-inch Pilot Tunnel

The 8- by 8-inch pilot tunnel’s sliding-block nozzle. The block is shown at the end of its stroke with the smallest vertical throat dimension and highest Mach number. Retracting the block to the right increased the vertical opening and reduced the airspeed in the test section. Note the hand crank and rotation counter used to position the block in this pilot nozzle.
