Altitude Wind Tunnel
Astronaut John H. Glenn, Jr. prepares for a training ride in the Gimbal Rig in 1960. Installed in the AWT in 1958 to test control systems, the Gimbal Rig was modified into a facility used to train all seven Mercury astronauts. In 1999, the Lewis Center was renamed to honor Glenn.
