Space Power Chambers
The pump house below SPC Number 1 housed the vacuum equipment needed to produce a space environment. The large cylinders suspended from the ceiling are oil diffusion pumps that open directly into the chamber and remove almost all of the remaining gas molecules after mechanical vacuum pumps have removed the bulk of the air. They function by trapping molecules in fine sprays of oil.
