Abe Silverstein Supersonic Wind Tunnel
(C-2005-00946): This small model is one of several designs used in sonic boom studies conducted in the ASWT during the 2000s. The models were mounted on long stings, and strategically placed microphones detected the overpressure that humans hear as a double boom when planes fly past faster than Mach 1. These studies have suggested ways to soften the effect considerably.
