Propeller Research Tunnel
(L-2303): This Vought VE-7-inspired fuselage and engine became the basic propeller-testing platform. The chain-and-sprocket arrangement at right was an electrically powered starter for the plane’s engine. A dogged fitting engaged the propeller to spin it, and the device rotated out of the air stream after the engine started. Note the beam-type scales used with the balance.
