20-Inch Mach 6 CF4 Tunnel
A 0.0175-scale X-38 Experimental Crew Recovery Vehicle model is shown here in the 20-Inch Mach 6 CF4 Tunnel at Langley Research Center. The X-38, though never deployed, was intended to become a lifting body “lifeboat” for the International Space Station. Like the Shuttle Orbiter, it was to enter the Earth’s atmosphere at a high angle of attack - which was being investigated in this research.
