National Transonic Facility - Space Shuttle Model
(1985-L-01774): A sting-mounted Space Shuttle stack installed in the NTF for ascent tests. The bulbous extensions simulate the engine exhaust plumes.
This 0.01 scale model of the Space Shuttle ascent configuration is shown installed in the National Transonic Facility at Langley. The solid-body exhaust plume simulators attached to the orbiter and boosters indicated that the plumes have a pronounced effect on wing loads.
