America's first space station, launched on May 14, 1973, was occupied by three crews between May 24, 1973 and February 1974, each for record-breaking durations. The Skylab program was NASA's first to focus on living and working in space, and paved the way for microgravity research on the Space Shuttle and International Space Station.
