Many incunables incorporate earlier manuscripts which have been cut up and re-used in the binding process. Here we have a thirteenth- or fourteenth-century English manuscript on canon law which has been broken up and used as a pastedown. A pastedown is the first or last leaf in a book which is pasted onto the inside of the boards to hide the sewing and where the leather of the cover is turned in
