William Williams (1859-1948) was a Welsh-born amateur photographer who worked for the Railways Department in New Zealand.

This selection of photographs by Williams includes views of Wellington, New Zealand, taken in the late 19th century, including a number of photos taken at ‘The Old Shebang’, a cottage on Cuba Street that Williams lived in with several friends before his marriage to Lydia Devereux in 1887.

The images are part of the Williams, Edgar Richard, 1891-1983: Negatives, lantern slides, stereographs, colour transparencies, monochrome prints, photographic ephemera (PA-Group-00076) group in the Alexander Turnbull Library, National Library of New Zealand. You can see more images from this group on the Timeframes website.

These images were added to The Commons on Flickr in November 2008.
