First GOES-1 Image (Oct. 25, 1975)
The first image of Earth from NOAA's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) series of satellite was taken by GOES-1 nine days after its October 16, 1975, launch. GOES-1 had onboard a Visible Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer which provided day and night imagery of cloud conditions. It also took radiance-derived temperatures of Earth’s atmosphere. GOES-1 was deactivated by NASA on March 7, 1985
