Meriwether Lewis
Description/Notes: Early settlement of Oregon. President Jefferson appointed his private secretary, Meriwether Lewis, as head of the now famous “Lewis and Clark Expedition.” After the expedition was completed, Lewis became governor of the Louisiana Territory.
