Gold dredging
Image Description: “This monster machine is operated in Baker County. The gold is found in the gravel deposits along the banks and in the bed of the streams. The gravel is conveyed into the machine through the giant arm shown in the foreground. It is mixed with water and subjected to a severe rocking motion which enables the loose particles of gold to fall to the bottom of the mass where it is caught on beds of mercury.”
