Trip to Mount Hood

We return home this week for a much deserved "trip to Mount Hood." 35 enchanting images that let you travel from the Portland Rose Garden, to Multnomah Falls, up to the tippy top up the Upper Glacier on the mountain. Black and white or hand-colored, these slides are an incredible look at the past... And, as we've found with other sets from the Visual Instruction Department, there was a delightful 1930s description of the images found in the set!

As an added bonus for this set, the description booklet included wonderful details for the individual images, which are included in the "Description/Notes" field for each image in the set. It's well worth reading.

"From Portland to Mt. Hood by way of the Columbia River Highway, the loop road and Government Camp is one of the most scenic trips in Oregon, while the ascent of the grand old mountain itself, through some-what strenuous, rewards the climber with scenes as enchanting and sublime as nature has to offer. If one is so fortunate as to reach the summit on a day when the air is clear, he will thrill with wonder and hushed delight as he gazes on the many snow caps to north and south, standing in majestic grandeur as sentinels of the Cascade Mountain Range; or as his view turn westward following the courses of a dozen mountain streams marked by their wooded banks as they emerge from the forests meandering toward the Willamette and break the landscape into great fields; or again as he beholds the vast rolling grain fields of Eastern Oregon and the Columbia in the distance shining like a silvery ribbon as it glides onward to the sea. The marvelous beauty of such panoramic views will never be forgotten.

Favorites? It's hard to choose, but make sure you linger on images of the Rose Garden, the harbor scene, Mitchell Point Tunnel, and the glaciers of Mt. Hood!
