116th IBCT Soldiers spruce up facilities on "Stonewall Day"

Full-time Soldiers of the Staunton-based 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Headquarters take time out from their normal work routine Nov. 5, 2013, to conduct clean up projects around their facility in Staunton. Personnel were authorized to report for duty in civilian work clothes as they conducted a variety of projects including raking leaves, cutting tree limbs and trimming grass. In addition, Soldiers moved a monument dedicated to 116th Infantry personnel from the Staunton and August area who "made the supreme sacrifice in service to their country during World War II" from beside the armory to a more prominent position just to the left of the entrance. Similar clean up projects took place at 116th IBCT facilities across the state. "Stonewall Day" takes place three to four times a year and is named in honor of the 116th's nickname of "The Stonewall Brigade." (Photo by Cotton Puryear, Virginia National Guard Public Affairs)
