1710th Transportation Company Soldiers return to Virginia after duty in Afghanistan

Virginia National Guard Soldiers from the Emporia-based 1710th Transportation Company reunite with family, friends and fellow Guard Soldiers Feb. 22, 2014, in Richmond after serving on federal active duty in Afghanistan since June 2013. The company returned to the United States Feb. 15, and approximately 145 Soldiers returned to airports closest to their home of record. A formal ceremony recognizing their service will take place in about 90 days. The 1710th began serving on federal active duty on April 1, 2013. While in Afghanistan, Soldiers from the 1710th drove more than 304,000 miles of transportation support missions, maintained a 99% operational readiness rate and received a safety streamer for having no serious accidents.
