Governor tours future FASTC site

Governor Terry McAuliffe leads a group of state and local officials touring the site of the planned Foreign Affairs Security Training Center June 2, 2014, at Fort Pickett, Va., and Pickett Park in Nottoway County. Joining McAuliffe on the visit were Secretary of Administration Nancy Rodrigues, Secretary of Commerce and Trade Maurice Jones, Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson, Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran, Deputy Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Adam Thiel, Chief of Staff to the Governor Paul Reagan, Blackstone Mayor Billy Coleburn and Nottoway County Administrator Ronald E. Roark, as well as Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security Gregory Starr and Brig. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia. Soldiers from the Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment flew the visitors via Black Hawk helicopter from the Virginia National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility to Fort Pickett and back and provided an aerial tour of the post. After an information briefing by Lt. Col. Preston Scott, garrison commander of Fort Pickett, Chuck Raderstorf, FASTC project director for Department of State, and Abigail K. Low, project manager from the General Services Administration, the officials took a bus tour to see first hand some of the locations where the training center will be constructed. After a multi-year search, Fort Pickett and Pickett Park in Nottoway County were recently announced as the site for the training facility to be dedicated to providing consolidated hard skills security and life saving training to the foreign affairs community.
