Induction ceremony welcomes new leaders

Recently assigned leaders of the 276th Engineer Battalion, 91st Troop Command, Virginia Army National Guard ceremoniously attach battle streamers to the battalion colors during the inaugural 1st Virginia Regiment Induction Ceremony June 11, 2014, at Fort A.P. Hill, Va. The battalion's distinctive unit insignia is a blue colored shield symbolic of the battalion's infantry heritage with gray saltire, which commemorates the unit's service in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. The fleur-de-lis symbolizes the service in France during World War 1. The red cross refers to the settlement of Virginia by the English and the arrow alludes to the French and Indian War and participation as the colonial militia. The red cross also refers to the Revolutionary service of the unit's predecessor. (Photo by Capt. Andrew J. Czaplicki, Virginia Guard Public Affairs)
