WOCs host community day in Blackstone.

Warrant officer candidates from the Virginia National Guard’s Fort Pickett-based 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute install wind screens and fence toppers at Wrigglesworth Field Sports Complex in Blackstone, Va., Aug. 23, 2014, as part of their Warrant Officer Candidate School community project. The eight candidates of Class 14-001 invited members of the Blackstone community to attend the event as well, which included a rock wall provided by the recruiters and a M1117 Armored Security Vehicle from Fort Pickett. Virginia National Guard aviators also flew in on a UH-72 Lakota helicopter to provide a capabilities demonstration to Blackstone fire and rescue personnel as well as provide an orientation flight to the future warrant officers. The weekend marked the end of Phase II for the candidates, who will head to Camp Atterbury in September for the third and final phase of WOCS. Following successful completion of Phase III, the candidates will return to Virginia as warrant officers. (Photo by Staff Sgt. Terra C. Gatti, Virginia Guard Public Affairs)
