Virginia Guard OCS Class 57 earns their guidon.

Officer candidates from Class 57 of the Virginia National Guard’s Officer Candidate School work their way through Fort Pickett’s confidence course Sept. 27, 2014, during their guidon earning event, which included conquering several obstacles, a ruck march and a tactical mission to capture their guidon from the OCS cadre. The course is taught at the Fort Pickett-based 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute, and Class 57 currently includes 19 candidates. Officer candidates from the D.C. National Guard conducted training in conjunction with the Virginia Soldiers, moving through the confidence course as well. At the conclusion of the morning’s events, the Virginia candidates earned their guidon, received words of advice from the OCS cadre and the class president received a dime from the Class 56 president said to be carried by Harry Q. Rose, the only graduate of the Virginia Guard’s OCS program to have given his life in the service of his country. (Photo by Staff Sgt. Terra C. Gatti, Virginia Guard Public Affairs)
