State CSM recognized for 33 years of service at retirement event
Command Sgt. Maj. Carl A. Holcomb, Virginia Army National Guard Command Sergeant Major, is recognized in front of friends, family members, colleagues and Virginia National Guard leaders Aug. 7, 2015, at a retirement ceremony held at Fort Pickett, Va.. Brig. Gen. Walter L. Mercer, Assistant Adjutant General - Army, presented Holcomb with a U.S. Army Legion of Merit and the Virginia Army National Guard Distinguished Service Medal in honor of his more than 33 years of service. Holcomb joined the Virginia Army National Guard in April 1982 and served in a variety of leadership positions both in the state and while deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
