183rd RTI hosts open house, welcomes families, elected officials

The Virginia National Guard’s 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute hosts an open house Sept. 26, 2015, at the Fort Pickett headquarters to showcase the regiment’s capabilities to families and local elected officials. State Senator Frank Ruff and Blackstone Mayor Billy Coleburn joined family members in touring the facilities as well as displays showcasing infantry weapons, military police equipment, vehicles, a driving simulator and a working dog demonstration. Col. Thomas Morgan, commander of 183rd RTI, also recognized Soldiers and Family Readiness Group volunteers for their service. RTI is comprised of the headquarters and three battalions: 1st Battalion conducts infantry training, including the infantryman military occupational specialty qualification course, Light Leaders Course and rappel master, while 2nd Battalion conducts the 88M Motor Transport Operator Course. Third battalion includes both Officer Candidate School and Warrant Officer Candidate School and also trains Soldiers as military police officers.
